Lil' Wayne Obsessed with a Queen::

Lil' Wayne drops video for his rock single "Prom Queen" and I must admit the video adds a flare to the overall concept of the song. In a way ::deep breath:: this song/video gave me a feeling like Rock N' Roll had returned to its original prototype, haha!

And a track with Wayne not cursing every other word or slurring??? Priceless.



Hmmn....I wonder who this ||Q.u.ee.n|| was at the prom who Lil' Wayne was infatuated with?

Looks like MJ will be coming out of seclusion. He has officially scheduled to make an announcement on Thursday at the O2 Arena in London. Britain's Sky News reported Wednesday that the 50-year-old King of Pop has agreed to a series of summer concerts at the O2. So, it looks like yet another Diva will be hitting the stage following a stint of time away from performing! We shall see....Michael has left the kidds hanging for some time now, so I'm not holding my breath for this one. He has probably scheduled this only to announce he's never performing again. Joke!

Monday March 9, 2009 13 new cast members will hit the dance floor for the first time on "Dancing With The Stars." Included is one of Hip-Hop's leading ||L.a.D.i.e.s||, Lil' Kim. She took a break from rehearsals and gave an interview about her spot on the popular dance show. I must say it gives insight into another dimension of her personality. One that will give the general public a different perspective of who Lil' Kim really is. I am definitely gettin' into it. w.e.r.k Ms. Jones!

India.Arie Testifies as Only She Can::

In her 4th studio album "Testimony: Vol. 2, Love & Politics" India.Arie comes back with heartfelt tracks that do anything but disappoint fans. Since her debut in 2001, India has proven time and time again , that other artists need to catch up to her level; she sets a the standard for neo-soul artists of today. No one in this generation combines soul, rhythm, love and political motifs in such a tasteful way than this Atlanta native. This album invites listeners on a journey to a deeper spiritual side of India.Arie.

The running theme of the album is connection through creation. In her intro/interludes she thanks God that he created her "from the same grains, from the same thing." This universal appeal resurfaces in "Ghetto" where she breaks down geographical barriers in comparing several countries [ghettos]. This track is followed by the album's lead single "Chocolate High" feat. Musiq Soulchild, which honestly does the overall project no justice. It's a good album filler, but there are stronger tracks that would have better served as singles.

Album highlights include "He Heals Me," the soul-stirring "Pearls" which places you in the daily routine of a woman from Somalia. The nostalgic "River Rise" takes you to a place deep within that we often forget. The album closes with a beautiful ode to life that inspires hope and change called "A Beautiful Day."

Be that as it may, feathers are serving up a sexy mysteriousness on the runways for Spring 2009 shows and invading the red carpets around the globe. I must admit when I first saw budding solo star, Solange Knowles, donning the bold accessories, I was….hesitant. I “got it” but didn’t know how the rest of the world would feel.

Well the look has caught on and there’s no stopping it. My only suggestion is pair it with something very, very simple. With makeup try either a smokey eye or darker lip. Not both….subtle dramatics will do just fine here….Afterall, you have feathers on your head!

The “exotic” part of your look is taken care of..you just have to bring the class and [subtle] sex appeal. Think the late 1950s when the bob was all the rave! GET INTO THAT!

Nothing Certain but Death & Tax

President-elect Barack Obama warned in an interview earlier this month that "things are going to get worse before they get better" with the economy, but he continued with optimism pointing out that the crisis is an opportunity to rebuild the country, both structurally and culturally.

Today, I ran across this article detailing an announcement by Governor David Paterson of a proposed $121 billion budget this week, which includes taxes on things such as iPod downloads, taxi fares, and even soda!

Mom tax: 18 percent tax on non-diet soda; 14 percent tax on beer, wine and cigars; 22 percent tax for going out dressed like that; 24 percent tax for jumping off the Brooklyn Bridge because your friends did; 30 percent tax for thinking this city is made of money; 27 percent tax for using that tone with us. Those caught crying about taxes will be given something to cry about.
Beast tax: The ever-growing population of city canines will be taxed based on level of irritation. Dogs with expensive doggie jackets, 12 percent; small, yapping dogs, 18 percent; people who carry small, yapping dogs in bags, 45 percent. Disabled dogs that use those adorable two-wheeled chariots for their hind legs will not be taxed, since they are so much fun to look at.
Crazy tax: Crazy is no longer free. City residents caught rubbernecking when passing crazy homeless people will be taxed according to how crazy the act: sort of crazy, 14 percent (senseless cooing at pigeons); really crazy, 16 percent (senseless cooing at pigeons while naked); craziest thing I ever saw, 36 percent (knitting overalls out of pigeon pelts).
Fat and Phat tax: If you are obese, you will be taxed accordingly. If you still use the word "phat," you also will be taxed accordingly. If you still use the phrase "cool beans," they will foreclose on your home.
Gas tax: Anonymously passing gas on the subway, then feigning shock that someone would do such a thing, will no longer be free. One person passes gas, everyone on the train gets taxed. Better be careful; now people will notice when you lean.
Tourist tax: City residents can approach tourists at any time, for any reason, and demand a tax. Taking photographs in your neighborhood, asking for directions, not walking with a sense of purpose — just a few reasons to levy a tax. Should residents feel motivated, they can even pull over one of those double-decker buses and make the tourists take you anywhere in the city.

Brandy Proves She Really Is Human

I've been holding back from posting an album review of her latest record from Epic, Human, which is Brandy's fifth studio album. Mainly because she has always been the sweet child star that you just love and could do no wrong. I approached her album with those same sentiments.

Don't get me wrong, it's a solid album. Just nothing to write home about. It does not stretch the artist in ways that differ from her earlier efforts. However, I must admit there are a few tracks that are beautifully arranged and vocally pleasing....but they do not create a lasting impact on the listener, unless of course you are a die-hard Brandy fan. The up side is that anyone who has an ear can note the serious tone the entire album exudes; it's reflective in both the lyrics and the overall production(s). Although, while most of the tracks are serious ballads, Brandy includes a fair balance of lighter tracks that are airy and provoke a feeling of nostalgia and happiness. It's very fresh, very reminiscent...one can't help but go back in the days where Brandy, Aaliyah, TLC, Mya and others were full-force on the scene.

Such songs as "Warm It Up (With Love)" give you just that feeling. Here Brandy offers simple, yet pretty vocals that offer Love as the solution for most of today's problems in the world......ground breaking, right? Not quite anything iconic, but her vocals are strong and confident, and that confidence definitely shines through in her music, which parallels with her growth right before our eyes. This growth is apparent on such tracks as her lead single "Right Here (Departed)" and "Camouflage," which personifies strength itself. This track is so powerful and will most likely be overlooked by most. The lyrics & vocals are powerful and transcend genre boundaries. The rawness and universal appeal is warm and welcomes self love. That's something that's priceless--- you get that vibe from this track.

There are a few other notable tracks depending on your mood while listening to the album, however, I still have to hold true to my opinion that she doesn't present material that is memorable having listened to the album. Unless...you consider (not for a good reason) "A Capella (Something's Missing)" which caught my attention first off by the title but quickly disappoints. It is NOT "a Capella" & does not hold true to the connotation of being such. Its not moving, nor does it showcase any special technical vocal skills. It's a miserable attempt in my opinion....one that's quite shameful.

However, I do agree....something's missing.

My Guilty Pleasures/Indulgences 4Now:

This is the time of year when everyone is supposed to be in the holiday spirit. Or at least preparing to get into it....with this economy many people may just be a little hesitant....but America-- as a whole-- always pulls through and makes the best of things.

In light of that, people are always thinking about what to get others. Well...be pretentious and think about all the things you are currently just fascinated with! So when you're asked what you want as a gift, you just spit out a colorful list....out of convenience since you WERE asked, of course! :-)

1. Rosary Beads- Considering I have been on a mean simple streak as far as dressing is concerned, I've relied on accessories to make subtle statements. And I've become fascinated with Rosaries. They are so bold and elegant. Watch out for the bottom part getting stuck in places and ripping off..........trust me, it happens!


2. Scarves- 'Nuff said. Layer, Layer, Layer!




3. V-Neck Sweaters- are classic and they feel really nice on the skin for those cool days that don't require any extra shirts or other layering. One of my favorite add-ons is a rosary!....go figure!


4. Cardigans- I love cardigans. And with most clothing I love, you can dress a cardigan up or down and still get the same "put together" look. Pairing with an oxford and a Tie is optional as shown.....most people think of this look first....therefore, a last resort for me! On a cooler day I've even paired a cardigan with a graphic t-shirt over it.....get into that...


5. Body Oils- They're sensual, soothing and most of all long lasting. My trick to smelling great all day and not A. Carry around a bottle of my favorite fragrance or B. Take a bath in a fragrance is: after you shower you rub oils on the spots of your body that pass the most blood as you're active (warmer areas to emit the scent) and then you sparingly pair this with a similar cologne. The cologne serves for an initial encounter, while the oils linger and subtly seduce. Ugh...there ya have it.....a "secret" of mine learned from my Mother.


6. Chuck Taylor All Stars- These are classics. Do I need to even harp about these. Get a few pairs.....maybe more! I prefer the high tops. They're more versatile in my opinion!
